Name My Book

By Raphael | In Fitness, Motivation, Nutrition | on February 11, 2013

I need your help. I’m writing a book about weight loss, and it’s going be different than anything on the market. It’s a book about how to lose weight and how to deal with all the crazy thoughts and wild emotions that roll around in your head during the process. The book has a unique approach that is powerfully effective…and different.

I’ve written my book proposal for submission to literary agents and publishers. However, I’m not happy with the title of my book. This is where you come in. I want you to help me name the book, and I’m willing to provide my services in exchange. So…

I’m having a contest the next three days. I want to get as many titles as possible.  Post the title here, post on my Fit by Raphael Facebook page or email me at raphael@fitbyraphael.com with your suggestions.

I then will have everyone vote on their favorite. The winner gets a one-hour free consultation with me that can be done on the phone or Skype. Or we can spend the hour communicating via email. It’s your choice. We can discuss your nutrition program and workout, and get you on the right track if you’re struggling.

Envision you’re strolling through a bookstore and venture into the weight loss/fitness/nutrition books area. What title will grab your attention so strongly that you just have to pick it up and start browsing through it? The one rule: Limit the title to no more than 5 words.

Send me your suggestions!

Still mulling it over…but I can tell you for use that combining “health” or “wellness” with “inside out” won’t work. There are already other books and blogs out there with those words in one combination or another and it will make marketing difficult. 🙂

Sometimes the best title stems from one sentence somewhere in the book that just “happened”. It just sprung organically from the creative process.

But I am still thinking! 🙂

Hi Liz – Yes totally agree. The title has to get you in the gut and practically scream for you to pick it up. Thanks for the help and for the great feedback!

“More Than A Mirror Image” but it might need a secondary title like Believe and See a Healthier You.

Liz, thank you again. I already have a subtitle but I’ll still add yours to my list. Thanks for going above and beyond. It means a lot to me!

I keep thinking about your fitness video – and one thing that stands out is how you KEPT saying “If you can only do a little bit, that’s OK”. You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to keep getting better. But that’s way too long for a title – so:

    1. You Have What it Takes

    2. Yes, YOU Are Good Enough (or, you are enough)

    3. Nobody Said It’d Be Easy

    4. Nobody Said It Was Easy

    I’ll keep thinking about it…

Thank you, Lori! Adding them all to the list.

What I’m finding is the key is to just go with a gut response. The longer I was thinking about it, the farther I got away from a strong title. I want someone to walk into a book store and feel a “boom!” when they see the title and feel utterly compelled to pick it up.

I love what you said about the DVD!

Thanks again! I’m adding them all to the list. I’ll have another blog post up next week that will have the voting poll. Studies show that a book has 2 seconds to make an impact on someone in a book store. So an emotionally driven title that screams “Pick me up!” is the way to go.

I really appreciate your help on this, Christina!
